Worth knowing from A to Z
On this page we give you tips and advice on various topics related to your holiday planning via MANU Touristik, such as dinner, payment, entry, pets, special requests or means of payment.
Dinner
Enjoy the included dinner in the comfort of your hotel or in a nearby restaurant according to the respective hotel description. In most cases, dinner is included daily, but sometimes not on all days of your stay (due to rest days, among other things).
Allergies, complaints, intolerances
If you have special accommodation requirements for health reasons, please let us know. We will be happy to advise you. Please inform the hotel directly of any dietary requirements or intolerances at least one week before your arrival.
Operating times
The stated operating hours are without guarantee. Please note that all service providers (especially mountain railways and shipping companies) may suspend operations in whole or in part in the event of bad weather, low water or due to revision, disruptions or unforeseen events.
Booking
You can book your MANU trip cheaply and directly with the tour operator. You can book quickly and easily online. For questions, advice and bookings, the MANU team will be happy to help you by phone.
Booking confirmation and payment
After receipt of your booking, you will receive a booking confirmation/invoice from MANU. Payment can be made by bank transfer or via credit card (Visa or Mastercard). The deposit of 20 percent of the tour price plus the premium for the travel insurance (if booked) is due directly. The balance is to be paid at the latest 30 days before the start of the tour without any further request for payment. In the case of payment by credit card, you will generally incur a 1.85% fee for the use of the card abroad. For payment by credit card, you will receive a link by e-mail with the booking confirmation.
Covid-19
There are currently no entry restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Further information can be found at the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health: Coronavirus (admin.ch).
Dogs
If you would like to travel with your dog, please let us know when booking your trip. We will be happy to inform you in which accommodations and under which conditions it is possible to bring your dog. Some mountain railways allow dogs free of charge. Dogs are not allowed on the Glacier Express. Dogs require a ticket for every train, bus and boat journey in Switzerland.
Hotel room with shower/bathtub
Most hotels have a bathroom with a bathtub and integrated shower, not all hotels also have rooms with a shower without a bathtub. Is it important to you to have a shower with level access if possible? Then please let us know right away when you make your reservation so that we can inform the hotel of this wish or recommend a suitable hotel to you if such a bathroom is not available in the hotel of your choice.
Height and health risks
Before booking your trip, please note that a longer stay at higher altitudes (Davos, for example, is at 1,560 m above sea level) can pose health risks. Also, if you have any health problems, please consult your doctor before taking the cable cars to even higher altitudes, e.g. to the Gornergrat at 3,089 m above sea level.
Child discount
In case of hotel accommodation, MANU Touristik grants a reduction of 50% on all booked travel services for children up to 15.99 years of age (day of departure), when staying in a room with two full-paying persons (in an extra bed). A combination with other discounts or vouchers is not possible.
MANU optional services cost 50% of the advertised price for children aged 6 - 15.99 (Furka Mountain Steam Railway free of charge). Children up to 5.99 years of age generally travel free of charge, without a seat.
Lift/elevator and stairs without railings
In the hotel descriptions, there is always a note if a hotel does not have a lift/elevator. Nevertheless, many hotels have a few steps to access the room, the entrance or the dining room, sometimes without railings.
When boarding various trains or buses, you may also have to climb up or down a few steps. Please let us know right away when making your reservation if you are unable to walk up or down steps without a handrail or if you need help boarding buses/trains. We will be happy to advise you.
Passport, Visa, Entry, Children
German citizens and citizens of other EU or EFTA countries do not need a visa to enter Switzerland. A valid identity card or passport is sufficient as a travel document. Citizens of other countries should obtain information from the relevant consulate. Please note, children travelling without their parents require a power of attorney or a declaration of consent from their parents to cross the border.
Smoking
All rooms in our hotels and in the holiday flats are non-smoking rooms. Some hotels offer a smoking or cigar lounge. If you like to smoke, we recommend booking a room with a balcony.
Travel documents
You will receive your travel documents by e-mail approx. 3 weeks before arrival. You can download your urlaubsMANUskript and your timetable booklet via the link in the email. This way you can prepare for your mountain holiday. Please do not print out these documents, as you will receive both booklets in printed form on site at the hotel.
If you would also like to have your travel documents sent to your home by post, please indicate this when booking. We charge EUR 20 per booking for this service.
Accommodation and standard
We have carefully selected the hotels and accommodation on offer for you. All rooms have a bathtub or shower, WC, TV and free WLAN. The rooms may differ in size, design and furnishings from the non-binding sample pictures. Please contact the reception and MANU Touristik immediately if the hotel room does not correspond to the promised service or if you do not feel comfortable. Check-in usually takes place from 3 or 4 pm.
Insurance
MANU strongly recommends that you take out travel cancellation insurance with holiday guarantee. This covers both the cancellation of the trip for an insured reason and a possible interruption of the trip. You can find more detailed information under Insurance.
Hiking equipment
We strongly recommend that you wear the right footwear. For walks on forest and field paths (yellow marking), comfortable hiking boots are sufficient. On mountain trails (white-red-white marking) we advise you to hike only with mountain boots. A good tread reduces the risk of slipping, a firm sole minimises pressure pain from sharp stones, and a raised shaft prevents twisting an ankle on uneven terrain.
We also recommend telescopic hiking poles for hikes. You do not need to bring these with you. MANU telescopic hiking poles as well as MANU hiking rucksacks on request are available at the reception in your accommodation for a deposit for free use during your stay (subject to availability).
Means of payment
Cash is accepted as a means of payment in all MANU hotels and holiday flats; Swiss francs and euros at the hotel rate, as well as the usual credit cards (Visa, Mastercard).
In Switzerland, cash can be easily withdrawn at most ATMs with the Maestro card (formerly EC card), for which a corresponding fee is usually charged. The same applies to credit cards. Ask your bank whether you can withdraw cash abroad with your card and what the
are possible with your card and what the respective fees are.
